Grimsley-Fry House Addition

Historic character thoughtfully preserved

Built in the early 1900s, the Grimsley-Fry House is a landmark in Greensboro’s Fisher Park neighborhood. When the owners began planning updates to the home, the goal was to accommodate modern living while preserving the architectural character that makes this historic property so special.

We designed three one-story additions to create a main-level primary suite, a mudroom and pantry, and a family room connected to the renovated kitchen. Each addition was carefully proportioned and positioned to remain secondary to the original home, drawing from its existing rooflines, siding, trim, and window details without simply copying the historic architecture.

Because of the home’s historic significance and its designation as a Guilford County landmark, our team worked closely with the Guilford County Historic Preservation Commission. The result balances the needs of today with respect for the home’s past, creating space for the next chapter of this Greensboro landmark while preserving the character that has defined it for more than a century.
